Ocean Access
On most yachts, tender handling and water access are separate systems that occupy separate space. A crane or lift for the tender. A swim platform or ladder for getting into the water. Two installations, each with its own footprint, its own mechanism, its own maintenance.
The H+B technics Ocean Access eliminates that duplication. Two rotating load arms are integrated directly into the aft platform. They lower the tender to the water for launch and retrieval, and they serve as a walkable staircase for access to sea or shore — using the same structure, the same hydraulics, the same space. One system. Two functions. Zero compromise.
Two rotating arms. One integrated structure. Complete aft platform functionality.
The Ocean Access uses two synchronized rotating load arms that are embedded within the aft platform structure. Each arm is driven by a pair of hydraulic cylinders — matched and timed to move together, providing smooth, balanced rotation across the full 255° travel range. From the fully raised transport position to the fully lowered water level position, the movement is continuous and controlled.
In tender handling mode, the load arms lower the tender from the stowed position on the aft platform to the water surface for launch, and retrieve it back from the water after use. The 1,500 kg Safe Working Load covers the full range of tender and jet ski weights encountered in superyacht operation. The hydraulic locking function holds the arms — and the tender — in any position along the rotation arc, including the water-level position during tender boarding.
In access mode, the same platform structure serves as a walkable staircase. The integrated steps allow crew and guests to descend from the aft deck to the water level or to shore, and to return. The platform is stable at any position because the hydraulic locking function holds it fixed — not floating, not rocking, not dependent on a separate anchoring mechanism.
From stowed to fully deployed and every position in between — locked, stable, and load-bearing.
The rotation range of the Ocean Access arms is up to 255°. This range covers the full travel from the transport position — where the platform is raised and stowed against the transom — through the horizontal position, to the fully lowered position at or near water level. The 255° arc provides the geometric clearance needed to deploy the tender from a raised stow position to the water in a single continuous movement, without the vessel needing to be repositioned.
At any point along this rotation arc, the hydraulic locking function can hold the platform in position. This is not a passive friction lock or a mechanical pin — it is an active hydraulic lock that maintains holding force as long as the system is pressurised. The platform does not creep, does not drift, and does not respond to external load by changing position. A person standing on the platform at any angle applies a load that the hydraulic lock absorbs without movement.
The two hydraulic cylinders per side are synchronised. They extend and retract at matched rates to keep the load arms parallel throughout the rotation. If one cylinder encounters resistance — from an asymmetric load or a mechanical obstruction — the synchronisation system compensates to maintain parallel movement and prevent racking.
The system always knows where the platform is. So does the control.
An integrated rotation angle sensor monitors the position of the load arms continuously throughout operation. The sensor output feeds the control system in real time — the control panel and remote always display the current platform position, and the control logic uses the position data to manage movement limits, speed transitions, and locking commands automatically.
The sensor monitoring means the system cannot be commanded to move beyond its travel limits, cannot be locked in an unsafe intermediate position, and cannot continue moving if the arm position deviates from the expected trajectory. These are not manual safeguards — they are automatic responses to sensor data. The operator presses a button; the system manages the movement safely.
The control is available both from a built-in panel on the aft deck and from a wireless remote. The remote allows full control of the system from anywhere within range — useful when the operator needs to stand at the water’s edge to guide the tender during retrieval, rather than at the control panel. Both control inputs use the same sensor-backed logic and the same safety limits.
Technical Specifications
The Ocean Access is available in different dimensions, load capacities, and step configurations on request. All structural components are electropolished AISI 316L stainless steel (X2CrNiMo17-12-2).
ROTATION RANGE
Up to 255°. Covers full travel from transport position to water level in a single continuous arc. Hydraulic locking available at any position within the rotation range.
DRIVE SYSTEM
Two synchronised hydraulic cylinders per side. Matched extension and retraction rates maintain parallel arm movement throughout rotation. Synchronisation system compensates for asymmetric loading.
SAFE WORKING LOAD
1,500 kg standard. Alternative load ratings available on request. Load rating confirmed during engineering phase based on tender or jet ski specification.
HYDRAULIC LOCKING
Active hydraulic lock holds platform in any position. Maintains holding force under load — no drift, no creep, no positional change under external load. Holds during boarding and disembarkation.
POSITION SENSOR
Integrated rotation angle sensor. Continuous position monitoring throughout operation. Feeds control system in real time. Enforces travel limits and triggers automatic safety responses.

Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most common questions about the Ocean Access.
Yes. The compact design of the Ocean Access is specifically intended to allow integration into existing aft platform structures without major modification. The retrofit feasibility depends on the available structural depth and the hydraulic supply capacity on board. H+B technics assesses the existing platform drawings during the engineering phase and confirms compatibility before fabrication begins.
The standard configuration is rated at 1,500 kg Safe Working Load. Alternative configurations with different load ratings are available on request. The specific load rating for a given installation is confirmed during the engineering phase based on the tender or jet ski specification provided by the owner or shipyard.
Yes. The hydraulic locking function holds the platform at any point within the 255° rotation range. This includes intermediate positions such as a partially lowered angle for boarding the tender while it is still above water level, or a specific access angle for a particular berth or shore configuration. The lock engages on command and holds under load without drift.
The wireless remote operates within a specified range defined during installation. The range is typically sufficient to cover the aft deck and platform area from any point within line of sight. The primary benefit of the remote is to allow the operator to stand at the water’s edge during tender retrieval rather than at the fixed control panel.
The Ocean Access is serviced as part of the vessel’s standard hydraulic system maintenance interval. The rotation angle sensor is inspected at the same interval. The stainless steel structural components require no surface treatment maintenance. H+B technics provides a full maintenance schedule and documentation with delivery.
