Hatch Cylinder
Opening and closing the stern garage of a yacht should not require manual effort or risk equipment shifting out of position mid-manoeuvre. The Hatch Cylinder from H+B technics is a hydraulic drive system specifically developed for yacht stern garages — supporting both upward and downward opening configurations. The drive arms are manufactured from electropolished stainless steel and secured with a load-holding valve that keeps the garage panel in position regardless of sea state. All required mounting hardware is included in delivery. The system ships fully pre-assembled — connect and operate.
The drive arms are manufactured from high-quality electropolished stainless steel. Electropolishing removes surface micro-inclusions and densifies the passive chromium-oxide layer, providing significantly better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than mechanically polished alternatives — relevant for components that operate in permanent saltwater spray exposure.
Each cylinder is secured with a load-holding valve. This valve holds the garage panel in its current position — open or closed — without relying on continuous hydraulic pressure. If pressure is lost, the panel remains stationary. This prevents uncontrolled movement of the garage flap during operation or at sea.
The Hatch Cylinder system supports stern garages that open upward as well as garages that open downward. The mounting geometry and cylinder stroke are configured individually for each vessel, taking into account the specific garage dimensions, hinge position, and available space behind the transom.
All required mounting screws and backing plates — manufactured from stainless steel — are included in delivery. No additional sourcing of hardware is needed at the shipyard or service yard. The system is delivered fully pre-assembled: connect the hydraulic lines and the electrical supply, and the system is operational.
Installation is straightforward because the system arrives completely pre-assembled. All components are factory-fitted and tested before shipment — no on-site assembly of the cylinder mechanism is required. The mounting hardware (screws and stainless steel backing plates) is included as standard. Detailed installation instructions are provided.
The system integrates into the vessel's existing hydraulic circuit or can be connected to a dedicated compact hydraulic power unit. Configuration is carried out in close collaboration with our engineering team to ensure the cylinder geometry matches the specific garage panel dimensions and hinge points of each vessel.
Technical Specifications
A hydraulic drive system for yacht stern garages — supporting upward and downward opening configurations. Electropolished stainless steel drive arms with integrated load-holding valve. Delivered fully pre-assembled with all mounting hardware included.
MATERIAL
Drive arms: high-quality electropolished stainless steel. Electropolishing removes surface micro-inclusions, densifies the passive chromium-oxide layer, and extends service life in permanent saltwater spray environments.
LOAD-HOLDING VALVE
Load-holding valve integrated into each cylinder. Holds the garage panel in position (open or closed) independently of hydraulic system pressure. Prevents uncontrolled panel movement in all sea conditions.
OPENING DIRECTION
Compatible with stern garages opening upward or downward. Mounting geometry and cylinder stroke configured individually per vessel based on garage dimensions, hinge position, and transom geometry.
INSTALLATION
Fully pre-assembled and function-tested. All required mounting screws and stainless steel backing plates included. Detailed installation instructions supplied. Connects to vessel hydraulic circuit or dedicated compact power unit.
CONTROL
Wired control panel and two wireless remotes included as standard.
"The lifts are not just functional — they match our design and standards. With H+B, it feels more like a team than a supplier relationship."
Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most common questions about the Hatch Cylinder.
Yes. The Hatch Cylinder is compatible with both stern garage configurations. The mounting geometry and cylinder stroke are configured individually for each vessel during the engineering phase to match the specific garage panel dimensions and opening direction.
A load-holding valve is integrated into each cylinder. This valve holds the panel in its current position without relying on continuous hydraulic pressure. If pressure is lost, the panel remains stationary — it does not drift or fall.
All required mounting screws and backing plates — manufactured from stainless steel — are included as standard. The system ships fully pre-assembled with detailed installation instructions. No additional hardware sourcing at the shipyard is required.
Yes. The system requires structural attachment points at the garage hinge area and access to the vessel's hydraulic circuit or a dedicated compact power unit. Our engineering team assesses retrofit feasibility based on the specific garage geometry and available installation space.
Minimal. The system is delivered fully pre-assembled and function-tested. Shipyard work is limited to mounting the cylinder brackets, connecting the hydraulic lines, and wiring the control panel. Detailed installation instructions with all dimensions are provided.
