Garage Seat
Deck space on a superyacht is finite. Every fixed installation — a sun lounger, a seating group, a table — occupies that space permanently, whether it is being used or not. On many yachts, the aft deck near the tender garage is an area that is heavily used when the garage is open, and underused when it is closed.
The H+B technics Garage Seat changes that equation. It is integrated directly into the front face of the garage door — invisible and flush when the garage is open and the door is in operation, and deployable at the press of a button when the garage is closed. The seat extends hydraulically from the door face, creating a comfortable seating position on deck without adding any permanent structure.
The seat lives in the door. When you don’t need it, it isn’t there.
The Garage Seat is built into the front face of the garage door panel. In the retracted position, the seat surface is flush with the door face — it does not protrude, does not interrupt the visual lines of the transom, and does not occupy any deck area. The door looks like a door. The seat is invisible.
This integration means the seat only uses space when it is being used. When the garage is open and the door is in operation, the seat is fully retracted and out of the way. When the garage closes and the deck area becomes a social or relaxation zone, the seat deploys and the door face becomes a seating surface. The same structure serves both functions without compromise.
The seat surface, cushion specification, and surrounding trim are all specified during the engineering phase to match the yacht’s interior and exterior finish. The result is a seat that reads as part of the yacht’s design — not as an afterthought installation.
Press the button. The seat extends. Sit down.
The deployment mechanism is hydraulic. When the button is pressed, the hydraulic actuator extends the seat from the door face to the deployed position in a single, smooth movement. The seat is stable in the deployed position — the hydraulic system holds it under load without drift or movement. When the seat is no longer needed, a second press retracts it back to flush.
The hydraulic drive means the deployment force is consistent regardless of the seat load at the time of retraction. There is no manual effort required, no mechanical adjustment, and no risk of the seat failing to retract fully due to uneven loading. The system deploys and retracts cleanly every time.
The control is typically a push-button panel integrated into the existing deck control system. The button location and control integration are defined during the installation engineering phase. Remote operation via the yacht’s main control system is also possible if required.
The seat is on the aft deck. It is engineered accordingly.
The structural components of the Garage Seat — the mounting frame, the hydraulic actuator housing, the pivot points, and all fasteners — are manufactured from materials specified for continuous exposure to salt water, UV, and the mechanical loads of marine use. The seat frame is electropolished AISI 316L stainless steel throughout.
The seat surface and cushion are specified to match the yacht’s upholstery specification. Marine-grade fabrics rated for UV exposure and salt water contact are standard. The cushion can be removed for storage when the yacht is underway or during extended periods when the seat will not be used.
The hydraulic actuator is sealed and rated for the marine environment. The system requires no regular maintenance beyond the inspection interval of the platform or garage hydraulic system it connects to. There are no separate service requirements for the seat mechanism.
Technical Specifications
The Garage Seat is custom-engineered for the specific garage door panel dimensions, the yacht’s finish specification, and the required seating capacity. All structural components are electropolished AISI 316L stainless steel.
DEPLOYMENT MECHANISM
Hydraulic actuator. Single-button deployment and retraction. Seat extends from door face in one smooth movement. Hydraulic system holds seat under load — no drift in deployed position.
RETRACTED POSITION
Flush with garage door face. No protrusion when retracted. Seat surface and trim match door panel finish. Invisible in operation when garage is open.
SEAT SURFACE
Specified per installation. Cushion material to yacht’s upholstery specification. Marine-grade UV-rated fabric standard. Cushion removable for storage.
STRUCTURAL FRAME
Electropolished AISI 316L stainless steel throughout. Mounting frame, pivot points, actuator housing, and all fasteners from the same alloy.
HYDRAULIC SUPPLY
Connects to vessel’s on-board hydraulic system or dedicated garage door hydraulic circuit. Connections pre-run and sealed at delivery.
"The lifts are not just functional — they match our design and standards. With H+B, it feels more like a team than a supplier relationship."
Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most common questions about the Garage Seat.
The seat is designed for use when the yacht is at anchor or mooring and the garage is closed. It is not rated for use underway. When the yacht is in motion, the seat should be retracted. The hydraulic system ensures quick and complete retraction before the garage door is opened or the yacht gets underway.
No. The seat connects to the vessel’s on-board hydraulic system or the existing garage door hydraulic circuit. The hydraulic flow and pressure requirements are confirmed during the engineering phase and matched to the available supply. No separate hydraulic unit is required in most installations.
The seating capacity is defined during the engineering phase based on the garage door panel dimensions and the available span for the seat surface. The structural frame and hydraulic actuator are sized for the confirmed load. H+B technics provides structural calculations as part of the engineering documentation.
Yes. The cushion material, colour, and stitching are all specified to match the yacht’s upholstery specification. H+B technics works with the yacht’s interior designer or owner to confirm the finish specification before fabrication. The cushion is removable for easy replacement or storage.
The hydraulic actuator holds the seat in position under load — it does not retract automatically if hydraulic pressure is lost. A manual override is included in the system to allow the seat to be retracted manually in the event of a hydraulic fault. The override procedure is documented in the installation manual delivered with the system.
